Nightmare Korra — Character Guide

Nightmare Korra is the released name for the alternate Korra fighter sometimes called Avatar State Korra in earlier material. Unlock her by reaching Story Mode Chapter 6 and completing the first “A Cold Welcome” battle. She trades base Korra’s stable all-round plan for lower-health, teleport-driven pressure, fast repositioning and support-specific special properties. Pick her for scrambles and anti-zoning angles, not because she is a straight upgrade.

Who should play Nightmare Korra?

Nightmare Korra turns one of Korra’s most frightening internal images into a fighter who seems to attack from the wrong side of the screen. The slouched stance, dark energy and teleport rhythm make the character feel less like a power-up and more like a bad decision that learned frame advantage.

Nightmare Korra's first match plan

Use Blink and air movement to make projectiles and predictable checks miss, then take a short confirm instead of gambling on another teleport. Her mobility creates fast scrambles, but current community discussion also describes the teleport plan as punishable when repeated. Build pressure around the threat of changing sides; do not change sides every time.

Blink is a threat, not the whole neutral game

Nightmare Korra’s identity centers on teleport movement, a normal air dash, anti-projectile angles and a family of 236 specials that change with support. Vaatu allows those specials to cancel into Flow movement, Dark Spirit adds chip pressure to normals, and Dark Avatar Unalaq improves the special family when energy is empty. The strongest use of teleport is making the opponent delay or aim differently. Once they wait for it, ordinary movement and a patient button become more valuable than another obvious Blink.

How should you choose a support?

Supports are not traditional active assists. They modify movement, move properties, resources, or combo routes, so there is no context-free “best support.”

Support variation

Vaatu

Allows the 236 special family to cancel into Flow movement.

Pick for: For escape, conversion and route flexibility.

Support variation

Dark Spirit

Adds chip-damage pressure to normal attacks.

Pick for: For players who want grounded pressure to matter more.

Support variation

Dark Avatar Unalaq

Adds properties to 236 specials while energy is empty.

Pick for: For a deliberate low-resource special-move plan.

Which key moves should you learn first?

MovePurposeCaution
BlinkInvincible teleport for repositioning and punishing committed actions. Its timing is punishable when it becomes the only plan.
Air DashNormal air movement for changing approach timing.Low health makes losing an air-to-air exchange expensive.
236 special familySupport-modified specials that anchor her route identity.Always record support and energy state with a route.

Your first 30-minute lab route

  1. Unlock her through Chapter 6 before relying on training shortcuts.
  2. Record one projectile and test Blink at three timings.
  3. Alternate teleport and ordinary movement so the dummy cannot predict a pattern.
  4. Repeat one 236 route with all three supports and empty/full energy.

Nightmare Korra combo and lab studies

Route cards explicitly record starter, support, resources, position, build, and evidence status. A card without complete notation is a research lead, not a finished combo to copy.

What will Avatar fans recognize?

The released name, posture and teleport-heavy presentation distinguish Nightmare Korra from base Korra as an independent roster slot, not an in-match transformation.
